The Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show 2026 is officially returning to New York City! Saks has confirmed that the famous Christmas light show and holiday windows will be unveiled on Monday, November 23, 2026, bringing one of Fifth Avenue’s best-loved Christmas traditions back for another season.

We had already spotted the first installations on the Saks flagship in October and photographed the preparations ourselves. Now, with the official announcement, we can also share the opening date and this year’s holiday theme, Main Character Energy.

Each evening, the Saks flagship at 611 Fifth Avenue transforms into a spectacular display of synchronized lights and music, directly across from the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The free show runs from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, repeating every 10 minutes throughout the holiday season.

The Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show is back for Christmas 2026, and this year’s celebrations begin on November 23. Saks announced the return on October 13 as part of its new holiday campaign, Main Character Energy, which celebrates festive fashion, holiday shopping and the joy of spending Christmas in New York.

We had an early indication that something exciting was happening when installation work appeared on the Fifth Avenue façade in October. We visited the area, photographed the preparations and began sharing updates before the official announcement.

For anyone who remembers the uncertainty surrounding the light show in recent years, this is particularly welcome news.

In 2024, Saks cancelled its annual Christmas light show because of budget considerations, leaving many visitors wondering whether the tradition had disappeared for good. The Christmas windows remained, but Fifth Avenue was missing the famous illuminated display.

Fortunately, the cancellation was temporary. Saks brought the show back on November 24, 2025, with a redesigned display featuring music and synchronized lights. The reopening celebration even included a performance by the Radio City Rockettes.

With its return confirmed for November 2026, we can once again look forward to seeing the Saks façade light up across from Rockefeller Center.

The Saks Fifth Avenue Christmas Windows are another wonderful reason to visit this famous department store during the holiday season. While the light show attracts crowds across Fifth Avenue, the windows offer something different, with beautifully designed scenes, creative storytelling and impressive fashion displays.

For Christmas 2026, Saks is taking visitors on a festive journey through New York City. The six central windows will feature an animated holiday adventure around the city, while the additional gallery windows will celebrate Christmas shopping, fashion and festive discoveries.

The Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show 2026 opens on November 23, with performances running every evening from 5:00 PM until 11:00 PM. The light show repeats every 10 minutes, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy the display throughout the evening.

Each performance has traditionally lasted around three minutes, combining synchronized lights and music across the historic façade. The exact length can vary with the production, but the short format makes it easy to watch more than once.

One of the things we love about the Saks light show is that you don’t need to plan your entire evening around it. If you arrive just as a performance ends, another begins only a few minutes later. You can even watch from different spots along Fifth Avenue and enjoy a new perspective each time.

We recommend arriving around 5:00 PM, when the early evening crowds are generally lighter, or later at night after 9:30 PM. December weekends can get particularly busy, especially around Rockefeller Center, so choosing your timing makes a real difference.

Last year’s show opened on November 24, 2025, and continued into early January. For 2026, the November 23 opening is confirmed, while the final closing date has not yet been published.

Are There Any Saks Light Show Blackout Dates?

One evening worth keeping in mind is the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. In previous seasons, the Saks light show has paused during this event because of the crowds and security restrictions around Rockefeller Center.

Christmas Eve has also been a blackout date in previous schedules.

If you’re planning to visit on one of these particularly busy evenings, check the current schedule beforehand rather than assuming the regular performances will take place.

For most visitors, a weekday evening outside the biggest holiday events is the easiest choice.

Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show 2026 Location in NYC

The Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show takes place at 611 Fifth Avenue, between 49th and 50th Streets in Midtown Manhattan. The flagship store sits directly across from the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, making this one of the most festive corners of New York during the holiday season.

And the best part? There is so much more to see within just a few minutes’ walk! Right next to Saks, you’ll find St. Patrick’s Cathedral, while the famous Rockefeller Center Channel Gardens offer beautiful views of the Christmas tree, illuminated angels and Saks façade.

Just behind the cathedral is the Lotte New York Palace, home to one of our favourite Christmas trees in Manhattan. Its elegant courtyard is well worth a stop, especially if you enjoy taking Christmas photographs.

Where to See the Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show in Manhattan

One of the best things about the Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show is its location, directly across from Rockefeller Center. There are several great places to watch, and each offers a slightly different perspective of the illuminated façade.

Our favourite viewing spot is the Channel Gardens at Rockefeller Center, where the famous Christmas angels and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree create a beautiful setting. From here, you can see the entire Saks façade, making it one of the best places to photograph the light show. It is also one of the most popular spots, especially on December weekends.

Another excellent option is the west side of Fifth Avenue, near St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This gives you a slightly angled view of the building, which can be particularly beautiful for photos and videos. Depending on the crowds, you may also find a little more room here than directly opposite the store.

Our advice? If you have time, watch the light show from the Channel Gardens first, then enjoy another performance from a different angle. With shows repeating every 10 minutes, it’s easy to appreciate the display from more than one perspective.

Our Tips for Enjoying the Saks Light Show at Christmas

A little planning makes a big difference when visiting Fifth Avenue in December. Rockefeller Center attracts enormous crowds, particularly on weekends and in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

If you prefer a quieter experience, we recommend visiting during the week or arriving shortly after the performances begin at 5:00 PM. Later evenings can also be a good choice, especially if you’re comfortable spending time outdoors in the cold.

We would avoid trying to squeeze through the Channel Gardens at the busiest times just to get a photograph. The view is beautiful, but you can also enjoy the illuminated façade from elsewhere along Fifth Avenue.

Remember to dress warmly. The show is outdoors, and standing in one place for even ten or fifteen minutes can feel much colder than walking around Manhattan. Gloves, warm shoes and a scarf make a real difference.

One final photography tip: if you’re using your phone, try recording a short video rather than taking dozens of photographs. The changing lights and music are a big part of the experience, and a video often captures the atmosphere better.

Insider Tip: See Rockefeller Center from Inside Saks Fifth Avenue

Here’s another lovely perspective that many visitors overlook.

On previous visits, we’ve enjoyed seeing the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and the Channel Gardens from the upper floors of Saks Fifth Avenue. Looking down towards the tree gives you a completely different view of this famous Midtown Christmas setting.

If you’re visiting the department store, it’s worth checking whether the upper-floor windows overlooking Rockefeller Center are accessible. Store layouts and public access can change, so we wouldn’t plan your visit around this viewpoint alone.

Even without going inside, the combination of Saks, the Christmas tree and the surrounding Fifth Avenue decorations makes this area one of our favourite places to explore during the holidays.
